Miracle Berry

A while back on an Ask Reddit thread about what you should buy for under $25, quite a few people suggested Miracle Berry. It’s a lozenge that is supposed to change the flavor of sour to sweet. Well, I tried it.

The first thing I ate after letting the tablet dissolve on my tongue was an orange. I thought it must have been a dud, since the orange tasted exactly the same. It came with a list of things you should try, and one of them was balsamic vinegar. It just so happened that the balsamic was right next to me, so I took a swig. No different.

However, the next thing I ate was a spoonful of sour cream. It tasted like plain yogurt and that’s when I knew I was on to something. Dijon mustard was next: it was sweet horseradish. Dill pickles became bread and butter pickles. Hot sauce became pure hot with no other flavors. Pickled banana peppers? Again, bread and butter pickles. Pineapple was the sweetest fruit, and pure lemon juice was the best lemonade I had ever tasted.

Was the Miracle Berry worth the $15? Not really. It made a few changes to my taste buds, then it wore off after about an hour. I got bored with it long before then. However, I am sure there are other uses for it that may be a bit more… interesting…
